Tall Friends

March 29th, 2011 | By Christine in illustration, projects | 2 Comments »

Another abandoned side project because the day job and ensuing exhaustion got in the way. For the first time, I’ve found thoughts of work have snuck back home with me as unwelcome stowaways. So I was looking through my sketchbooks for some sanity, and found this to be the perfect representation of how I feel this morning. And a reminder to get back to all the things I meant to do.

Feeling a bit head down, bum up, to borrow the expression of a Kiwi I corresponded with when I did photo research for Fodor’s a couple summers back. He ran a cinema. Rule number 1 in my team at work: No barfing. To be repeated aloud to ourselves over and over again this week.

Well Crafted

Well Crafted, a portfolio for designers! Sounds great, doesn’t it? That’s because it is!

Well Crafted is really a designer’s dream come true when it comes to online portfolios. You can choose real typefaces from Typekit, Webtype, and Webfonts. You can categorize your work. You can archive things so that you don’t have to remove them, and can access them easily without having to re-upload. And you can create private projects to grant individual access to. The list goes on, but you can check it out for yourself, and sign up for Beta!

Well Crafted is created by my friends Keith and Jana Harper, who make the team of Duo. Keith is a graphic designer, and Jana is a web developer, both extremely talented. More importantly, though, their drive to create products of quality inspires the pants off of me. They are amazing people who care about being responsible to the planet as well as other human beings, and they are always up for giving me advice (regarding taxes, jobs, or just telling me about the news — anything under the sun) on a subway ride back to the UES. I really can’t wait until this site is ready for use.

Little Trees

March 5th, 2011 | By Christine in random fun | No Comments »

Was looking through some photos and found this one of the little trees I saw on my way to the Whitney in January. Actually, I passed by these little trees almost everyday to and from the subway, but had never noticed their little ribbons until then. How they make me smile! Though now they are ribbonless, and I think one of them has been decapitated. Sad day.

I also love the neon signage of the hotel to whom those little trees belong. The letterforms give me joy, especially the K. Though I swear that every other day some of the letters will be broken, but they seem to fix them quickly in time for some other letters to die.
